OT--She's a smartie!

Audrey continues to show improvements in all areas of development. We are working on 3 block designs--she shows interest, but needs help to make "cars" and "bridges". She can close scissors on paper to snip, but needs help opening the scissors. She continues to need help holding her cup, but is less resistive to outside help. She can get a twist top lid off if it is started for her. She attempts to draw horizontal lines, but they are still sometimes more than 45 degress off. Audrey is intereste in balls and likes to play catch, but needs help positioning her arms and trapping the ball. She is getting very strong and wheelbarrow walks across the room now. She's very proud of herself and her cognitive skills have really expanded over the past 3 months.

Audrey is Amazing

Audrey is imitating more words ( "bubble", "help", etc.) and saying some spontaneously ("go", "more", "please", "eat", etc.). She is also using some signs plus words (e.g. saying "more" and signing "please"). Audrey tolerates oral-motor activities to help strenghten her mouth muscles for speech. During oral-motor time, she sits in my lap and we look in a mirror and sing "Wheels on the Bus". Audrey is pointing to many common object pictures and action pictures (from a field of 2 pictures)!! WOW :) Audrey is trying to make all of the speech sounds and environmental sounds during play.

Audrey Had a Great April!

Audrey is finally giving it up and showing what she can do. The other day she sorted 5 colors into separate cups. I couldn't believe it! She is still working on horizontal lines and snipping paper. She is talking and using signs so much better lately. Audrey is getting much stronger and wheelbarrow walking 20 steps while being held at her ankles. Great job this month in OT!

Audrey is Awesome in March!

Audrey is now stringing two large beads. She is placing 7/7 basic shape puzzle pieces in the correct hole with encouragement. She continues to need assist to imitate horizontal lines and snip with scissors. She can now wheelbarrow walk about 6 steps with support at her ankles which is great for developing her upper body strength. She's doing better following directions. We still are working on her using both hands together instead of primarily one. We're also working on open cup drinking--using both hands, not spilling. I've been impressed this month. Especially with her walking. Go Audrey!

Dec/Jan Speech

Audrey is pointing to a variety of common object pictures when named (from a field of two pictures). She is saying "tea" for "please" consistently. She continues to say "Go" as well. I am working on getting her to the "m" sound when signing "more". Also, we are working on putting two signs together. She will sign "more" and then say "tea"/"please". We are working on more phrases such as "help please", "more, eat", etc. She tries to imitate a variety of speech sounds when her classmates do so as well. She attempts all of the actions that correspond to the speech sounds. She tolerates oral-motor activities with chapstick, lollipops, and whistles. Audrey is a pleasure to work with.

Audrey's December OT

Audrey's attention and participation in activities continues to be good. Her upper body is getting much stronger and she wheelbarrow walked 25 steps when supported at her knees. This month, she stacked 8 blocks and put a bead on a string, but couldn't advance it down the string. She is very good with basic puzzles and always gets near the correct piece...if she doesn't get it in all the way. She keeps working on drawing lines and circles---her vertical line drawing is emerging, but she still requires assist to form horizontal lines. She holds scissors and touches them to the paper...not yet snipping it, but she's getting the idea. OT isn't at school during mealtime, but after talking to her teachers, they are doing a good job having her work on getting into her chair and holding/using a spoon. Go Audrey!

Oct-Dec Speech

Audrey is imitating a variety of speech sounds when paired with an action/sign! She identifies 80%-90% of common pictures when shown two pictures! Audrey is saying and signing "Go" when I say "Ready, Set," during swinging or rocking boat activities. Audrey likes oral-motor activities with lollipops and passive stretches while looking in a mirror. She is signing "more, please" with some cues during play activities. She needs cues to sign "all done", "help", and "my turn". She likes songs and we are working on her choosing the correct song picture as well as making the silly sounds in them ("EIEIO", "Beep, Beep", etc.). We are also working on animal and vehicle sound imitation while playing with those toys, puzzles, or looking at books. Great Job Audrey!!! ----Sally Evans MA CCC-SLP
